A single regional label can hide major differences in project scale, utility structure, local rules, land availability and community impact.
AUSTIN + NORTHERN CORRIDOR

Technology depth. Smaller operating base. Higher-impact rules underway.

Austin Energy identified ten facilities from 1–20 MW and no known 75+ MW interconnection requests. Larger campuses are developing in surrounding communities, including Pflugerville and Round Rock.

Code amendments initiated

Austin

Austin staff identified ten data centers from 1–20 MW, no known 75+ MW interconnection requests, and current data-center water use below 0.3% of 2025 citywide use. The City is developing definitions, siting and operating standards for higher-impact facilities.

San Antonio

On August 25, City Council discussed a possible temporary construction moratorium and data-center-specific amendments to the Unified Development Code. Draft amendments are moving through public review.

CPS Energy

Facilities with aggregate demand of 40 MW or more enter a defined study process. Projects at 75 MW or more also require the ERCOT Large Load Interconnection Study.
